Help your school tackle childhood obesity with an AGP Play solution

Help your school tackle childhood obesity with an AGP PLAY solution

Childhood obesity is a rising health issue affecting nearly a third of children aged 2 to 15 are overweight or obese in the UK According to Public Health England figures for England and Wales. Almost 60% more children in their last year of primary school are classified as “severely obese” than in their first year. This can cause serious health problems for children when they get older.

To work out whether a child is obese (for children under 18, because they’re still growing) their BMI is compared with a sample of heights and weights of other children their age and sex. To help stop children from being obese, overweight children do not need to exercise more than slimmer children. Their age and extra body weight means they’ll naturally burn more calories doing the same activity as any other child.

Research shows that (link) children should aim to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day for good health. At AGP Play we are committed to helping schools tackle this issue and reduce the number of children with these obesity issues. AGP can provide your school with facilities that will encourage children of all ages to want to exercise.

Amberley Primary School - Sports Day

One way we can help tackle issues such as obesity in school is by schools taking park in ‘’The Daily Mile’’. The scheme encourages nursery and primary school pupils to jog or run, at their own pace, for 15 minutes or more every day during school. The aim of the initiative is to improve the physical, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of our children – regardless of age, ability or personal circumstances. This means that every pupil can get involved and it doesn’t matter what level of fitness each individual pupil is at. Pupils find it exciting and a fun exercise to take part in.

AGP design and build tracks which are suitable for The Daily Mile, in a variety of colours, shapes and lengths to suit the available space and available budget. We create the tracks using our anti non slip artificial grass surfaces, whilst creating a fun, inspiring and safe surface for young children to play and learn on. AGP paths are hugely resilient to wear and tear from the various activities, such as running, and also to the ever-changing UK weather. Thanks to the suitability of our paths, The Daily Mile legacy could be benefiting your school for years to come.

To keep your child active and healthy AGP can also provide your school with Multi use game areas. Mini MUGAs and sport pitches ensure that students get the required physical and mental stimulation needed. AGP design and build MUGAs in a variety of colours and sizes to suit your available space and more importantly your budget.

A recent installation we completed transformed St Paul’s CE School in Stoke. The team transformed a tarmac playground into a MUGA with a running track around the outside using our popular blue artificial grass. We offer complete freedom of design when it comes to your MUGA, bringing your ideas to life. All AGP MUGA surfaces are guaranteed for 10 years. At AGP we want to help give children the facilities to ensure they have a healthier and happier life style.
